Non-personally Identifiable Information:  The non-personally identifiable information we collect includes the domain name of the site providing you with Internet access, the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet, which is usually associated with the place from which you enter the Internet, like your Internet Service Provider, your company or your university.  Our service may also collect your browser type and version, the operating system your computer is running, and other site visit data such as the pages you view, the referring page that linked you to us (e.g., another Web site or a search engine), information you search for, information or ads you click on, the average time spent on our website, and the web site you visit after this web site. Much of this information is tracked through log files, which are stored on HighSchoolPlaybook.com's servers. What about cookies and web beacons?

Hearst, certain of our Service Providers working on the Site and unaffiliated third parties use technologies such as cookies and web beacons to enhance the information we have about your preferences and to learn about your visit. A cookie is a piece of information that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. A cookie allows HighSchoolPlaybook.com to determine that a visit has occurred within our site, as well as which pages were viewed.  Cookies are not used to identify you and will not collect personal information. You can decide if and how your computer will accept cookies by configuring your preferences option within your web browser. If you choose to decline cookies, however, some of the functionality of the Site may be impaired.

Web beacons, also known as clear gifs and web bugs, allow us to recognize a cookie on your computer when you view a web page or e-mail. Some of the information we collect using web beacons is personally identifiable. We may combine this information with other personal information we have collected about you to better tailor our marketing or website content to you and may use this information for other purposes, such as internal research.

Third Party Advertisers’ Use of Cookies and Web Beacons

We may allow third parties to compile information or aggregated statistics from our use of web beacons to help them assess the effectiveness of online marketing and to enable us and our advertisers to deliver more targeted advertising opportunities. This means that users see advertising more likely to be of interest to them, and advertisers send their messages to people who are most likely to be receptive, improving both the viewer's experience and the effectiveness of the ads. Aggregate information is anonymous.  No personally identifiable information about you is shared with third parties for this purpose, and third parties are prohibited from using web beacons to access your personal information. Some web beacons can be disabled by rejecting cookies.

In addition, advertisers may elect to use third-party advertising companies to serve ads onto our website.  These third party advertisers are subject to their own privacy policies, not ours. In the course of serving these advertisements, the third-party advertisers may place or recognize a unique “cookie” on your browser. We do not have access to these cookies or any information that they may contain.  If you would like more information about this practice and about your option not to accept cookies placed by these companies, please click here.
